This is a dystopian novel about parenthood and forgiveness and I absolutely devoured it. The writing and form of this one was stunning, and the ideas about punishment and society were so interesting. On its face, the punishment of getting an extra shadow by the government wouldn't be so bad, right? But this novel uncovers the ways that society already alienates those who are different. Beautiful.
